Working Class Catering sources nearly all the fresh produce directly from SoCal farmers and most of the meat and seafood from local ranchers, fishermen, and co-ops. Our relationships with our vendors are paramount, as they are not only mutually beneficial, they enact a positive change in our contemporary food system and community.

Working Class Catering is proudly serving San Diego 150,000+ meals yearly.

The Working Class Catering is owned and operated by a local native, Chef Phillip Esteban. An award winning chef from National City and Paradise Hills who has traveled the world to hone his culinary art form. After returning home he has set his focus and attention on creating spaces for the community to gather around bold, authentic, and accessible meals.

He has taken the leap to build spaces that reflect his Filipino-American Heritage to bring visibility and cultural representation to Filipino Communities. He began with Open Gym, a hospitality and nonprofit group which is funded by revenues from a collection of culinary concepts that are operated by Esteban and his team, including White Rice and upcoming concept Wildflour Delicatessen, a modern California bodega, that will open in the summer 2024. He was named “Best Chef” by San Diego Magazine, “Change-maker of the Year” by Eater and won an episode on Food Network’s competition Chopped.
